The Team
The District Shooting Team comprises members from the district team and local groups who have been specifically trained to teach our young people the art of target shooting. As a team, we offer several ways to access this experience depending on the age of the participants and to suit different skill levels.
Activities include;
- Taster Sessions – Available at some scout huts directly or at Lyons Copse.
- Annual District Shooting Competition. – This competition is available for all those of cub age and over to participate against all participants throughout the district and is held on the third Thursday in November each year.
- The YPS Scheme – This youth proficiency scheme allows those interested in gaining better skills, techniques and experience with rifle target shooting. The scheme is next due to run in the early part of 2023. More details can be found on the YPS Page.
The shooting team offers activity evening taster sessions to Cub age or higher throughout the district that allows cubs, scouts and explorers to spend an evening learning the safety aspects of target shooting with rifles before being allowed to try for themselves, all under the instruction of fully trained shooting instructors.
